THE FABRICK LAB collaborates with craftsman Guo Derui in a project that pairs a traditional Beijing Hutong Box Maker with an unconventional textile experimentalist. This collision is to tell people that this box is not just a carrier for objects, but is also itself somewhat of an art form.  By giving each box a new skin, THE FABRICK LAB celebrates the quantity and the refined structure of each box through tactility and visual impact. One of the biggest obstacles Mr. Guo faces is that traditional textiles are so rare that, after 10 decades using the same fabrics, they are no longer available. THE FABRICK LAB creates a range of bespoke fabrics for Mr. Guo to create his boxes. Come and explore what could be the new skin for these hand-crafted traditional boxes!
